Big Sky Country State Fair Country Dancing Competition

Western Roots Country Dancing is organizing a thrilling Country dancing competition set to take place at the Big Sky Country State Fair on July 19th. This event is inclusive, welcoming participants aged 8 and up to showcase their skills on the dance floor.  

Age groups are: 8-10, 11-14, 15-18, 19-30, 31+

Please register as a couple

Please no dance instructors, please come cheer the dancers on! 

Dances: Competitors will have one song for & one song for country swing (any style).

Music: COUNTRY! 

Awards: Beautiful hand crafted buckles by Sheridan Buckle Company.

The winning couple will be honored with buckles, a symbol of their achievement and dedication to the tradition of country dancing. Competitors will dazzle the audience with their moves in Montana Country Swing! 

With the competition just around the corner, now's the perfect time to start practicing and perfecting those dance moves! 

General Rules and Information:

1. All-inclusive country swing dance competition. All styles of swing are welcome! 
2. Contestants must purchase their tickets online or in-person no later than 2:00 July 19
3. Each contestant must sign a liability waiver. If the competitor is under 18 years of age, waiver must be signed by parent or guardian.
4. Contestants are responsible for checking the contest posting; making sure their names are spelled correctly and they are in the appropriate age division.
5. All couples must have a Lead (male or female)  and a Follow (male or female).
6. This competition is a Strictly swing dance comp. You must compete with the partner you signed up with.
7. Eligibility: Dancers must sign up for the appropriate age division. If one dancer is in an older age division than the other, the couple must dance in the older age division. They will not be allowed to dance in the younger age division.
8. Clothing: Western theme. No unsafe clothing will be allowed or any inflatables, studs, ropes, etc. Hats may be worn . If a hat falls off and touches the ground during comp, couple will be docked 15 points.
9. Behavior: Contestants should conduct themselves in a friendly, mature manner and display good sportsmanship. Contestants displaying poor behavior may be disqualified, with no refund, and ejected from the event.
10. Attendance: if you are not present at the time of the competition, you will receive no refund. Please be present and punctual. All dancers must be present for the competitor meeting at 2:30 July 19.
11. No dance instructors of any kind will be allowed to enter into the dance competition, we want to keep it fair and welcoming for those entering.
12. No lifts or aerials, one boot (or shoe) must remain on the floor at all times.
13. The songs you will dance to are preselected country songs.  Please join us on the dance floor and have fun!
